Kogarah is located 14 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and is considered to be the centre of the St George area. Kogarah is also the administrative Centre for the local government area of the Municipality of Kogarah.
The hub of the suburb lies around the Kogarah Town Centre which is Kogarah's largest shopping Centre. It includes a post office, two supermarkets (Woolworths and Aldi), a tavern, along with a multitude of specialty stores. It also provides easy access to Kogarah railway station.

The area also features many parks and reserves, with no shortage of sports playing fields. These include Hogben Park, Frys Reserve, Scarborough Park, Kogarah Park and Jubilee Oval.
It’s also a great place to bring up the family with wide open spaces, short drive to the beach and a number of top schools to choose from including Carlton South Public School, Blakehurst High School and Mater Dei School.
