Landscaping Our Cities - Sydney's Newest Trend
By Jun Kurosawa

A movement is underway in recent times whereby drap apartments located in the CBD are being revitalized with strips of vibrant foliage making spectacular appearances on city facades. It’s not just in Sydney, its an international trend. New garden apartments are being built in Casablanca with flowering vines sprawling across the facades of four tower blocks. Each floor of the three 16-storey residential towers will feature wrap-around balconies with screens made from an interwoven mesh. The balcony walls will be planted with jasmine or white bougainvillea, an ornamental vine native to South America.

Meanwhile in Sydney a new article posted this week describes how the City of Sydney has been working towards making the CBD greener through the installation of green roofs.

You can see a good example of this with vertical gardens on the facade of One Central Park.
A parking station was recently beautified with vertical gardens (http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/city-east/green-touch-hopes-to-transform-ugly-goulburn-st-carpark-into-a-beautiful-vertical-garden/story-fngr8h22-1226857887904) and Sydney recently unveiled its largest vertical garden at the new One Central Park in Chippendale (http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/city-east/central-at-central-park-shopping-mall-opens-today-in-chippendale/story-fngr8h22-1226749502920)
